Cider School: Apple Exhibition & Cider Tasting w/Ploughman's Ben Wenk

  • Middle Child Clubhouse 1232 North Front Street Philadelphia, PA, 19122 United States (map)

Every year, Philly Cider Week strives to provide at least one educational event for the curious minds among us. Cider is still overwhelmingly misunderstood, so we embrace the opportunity that each year gives us to illuminate some truth underneath the common misconceptions. One of the biggest ones is that all cider is sweet, or cider is all the same. This year, we will tackle the topic of the apple itself and why a cider maker might choose one specific variety over another, what we mean by cider apples vs dessert apples, and the nuances provided by the former. In an industry where we talk about terroir, the grapes for wine, or the agave varietals for mezcal on a regular basis, Ben Wenk (Ploughman Cider) is bringing us an opportunity to do the same for the apples used for cider production.

“We're engaging the minds and palates of industry folks and cider enthusiasts by tasting apples and the ciders they create. Whether you've heard about "cider apples" and their unique qualities or you're just starting your journey of cider discovery, this will be an open and fun event that will demonstrate the diversity of flavors and aroma that apples possess. Join us for this memorable sensory experience!” - Ben

Ben’s talk and tasting will be first, with a happy hour to follow.

This event is free to attend but you must RSVP here!
